Upcoming Project: Frown

Marcel is a clown who can’t get a laugh. When his life falls apart he finds himself pushing the limits of performance art and finally finding a crowd… but at what cost?

Well, that is a little vague and flimsy, no? In reality Frown is a passion project written by myself, and drawn by my very talented brother Winston. It is our first collaboration, and has proven to be a real test of wills.

Weighing in at 40+ pages, Frown is something that has connected myself to my brother in a way I never dreamed of. Together we have put our hearts and souls into this story, that is really about the pain of sharing your creative works. It is fitting that we have gone with this theme, as we both have many misgivings about our own work, but together we are putting together something full of meaning, and a passion for the craft of making comics.

I guess it started with our attendance of the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco in 2013. On the drive out to the event I shared several plots I had roughed out and Winston offered his hand. After the event we were certain that not only could we create a comic worth reading, but that we could do so in time for the next Expo. Thus far we are on track, doing every bit ourselves, learning as we go. I am excited to share this story, and even more excited to use our newfound confidence on future stories.

Below you will find some sketches Winston has done in between working on pages for Frown. I hope you appreciate them as much as I do, and I look forward to letting you all know when we are ready to share the story.
