Bibliography

Here is a sampling of what I have written thus far. I have omitted small run zines and such, as many of these are not only OOP, but are also lost to time.

Tremor Dose

Published: HALLOWEEN 2019, ComiXology Originals

Tremor Dose was a book many years in the making, when we got our contract with ComiXology we were 40 pages in and were frankly surprised that there was interested in this strange tale of dreams. Getting published through ComiXology Originals proved to be a really solid move for us, as newer creators we were suddenly alongside books by Zdarsky, and Jock, and many other creators I admire greatly.

We managed to secure incredible praise in the form of pull quotes from multiple Eisner Award winners, and creators whose work we have long admired.

Most importantly this 136 page OGN marks the beginning of my creative relationship with Noah Bailey… one that I hope lasts a lifetime.

Tremor Dose was the #1 bestseller in horror and new releases for nearly 2 months… it continues to sell really well. Noah and I are really excited for the next one!

Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds #5

Published: November 2019, DC Comics/Young Animal

My DC Comics debut came via one of my favorite comic series of all time. The fact that I was able to contribute a piece to the DP universe still stuns me.

I owe this to Gerard Way, Becky and he were at a convention and Becky gave a soft pitch for a Doom idea I had been rolling around since the comic came back… miraculously Gerard loved the idea and gave us his blessing to step in and do our thing.

“Our thing” in this case was to tell a very meta love letter to Doom Patrol and to comics in general. Becky and I are super pleased with what we have contributed to Doom Patrol and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m dying to get back in there!

You can likely find a copy at your LCS or you can go to the comiXology link below!

Bizarre Adventures: Tomb of Dracula

Published: December 2019, Marvel Comics

In my Marvel Comics debut I was able to make a splash with a Tomb of Dracula story w/Becky Cloonan handling art and cowriting. We were able to, in 10 pages, tell a story that introduced a new character Eveline O’Reilly, and to reference Werewolf By Night... all while telling a story that is jam packed with action and some serious emotional weight.

Working with editor Jake Thomas was a delight.

This one might still be at your LCS, or you can read it digitally at the link below!

Skeleton Crew

Release Date: TBA Dev: Cinder Cone - Pub: Modern Wolf

I was hired by Cinder Cone in the first quarter of 2020 to come on as writer of the forthcoming physics based platformer “Skeleton Crew” which is set to announce a release date soon.

This is the first game I have ever worked on and I have really enjoyed the challenges involved in telling a cohesive story in a video game environment.

It’s been a blast to explore storytelling in a new way. My responsibilities are multifold- I give voices to the characters and create the narration, while tying together the objectives to tell a tale of unlikely heroes. This game is a ton of fun and I’m very excited for it to launch. I’ve included a link where you can add “Skeleton Crew” to your Steam Wishlist.

Hey, Amateur!

Published: October 2019, Black Crown - Kickstarter

I was lucky enough to earn a spot in this book that is stuffed to the gills with legendary creators. Paired with Caitlan Yarsky I truly believe we were able to contribute something original and heartfelt to the project. Caitlan is a rockstar, and I’m quite lucky to have worked with her.

Getting to know Shelly Bond during the production of this book proved critical. Shelly remains a hero of mine, but now she has also become a bit of a mentor and a great friend.

This thing made nearly 60K on Kickstarter… this was the first time I was part of a crowdfunding campaign… what a nerve rattling month that was!

Unlucky

Published: July 2020, MSCG

This was the second comic I wrote and drew myself during Covid 19. As I type this I await its arrival… it’s a 36 page fever dream about the nature of circumstance and its relationship with perspective.

The Strange Disappearance of Robert Lau

Published: June 2020, MSCG

When Covid 19 struck a lot of freelance jobs were put on hold, I was gutted. So I did the sensible thing and quickly wrote and drew a body horror comic to help me deal with the hard feelings.

I am very happy with how this turned out. The response to it hase been overwhelmingly positive, even drawing comparisons to the work of Junji Ito, a creator I have long admired.

It’s 20 pages, 100% me and my fears on the page.

You can get it for $5 right here!

The Watts- 24 Hour Comic

Published: October 2019, MSCG - OOP

My Tremor Dose partner Noah and I gave 24 hour comics a shot and The Watts was what I came up with. 24 pages in 24 hours- cold, no prep.

I love this book.

I was able to fogive my artistic faults and just go for it, to tell a bonkers story and share it with the world.

24 Hour Comics is INCREDIBLY hard. I too 22 hours on this, finished, slept 2 hours and then was on the phone with an editor about a project that never fully materialized.

I look forward to doing another one soon.

This made a readers top 10 list for 2019, and people really responded to it well.

Adventures of the Moss Babies

Published: March 2019, MSCG

When we started playing Pathfinder we had no intentions of making a zine… a year into it we decided to document some of the wild stuff we were getting into during our roleplaying sessions. Each player and our fearless DM Steve Conrad (my little brother) contributed to this 49 page extravaganza.

At Emerald City Comic Con this fell into the hands of the creators from Pathfinder, and we were so pleased that they enjoyed it. After that same con Jim Zub tweeted that it was his favorite purchase at the show.

This has a lot going on, I wrote up horoscopes, wrote and drew sequentials, and tried to keep up with the talents that the others put on full blast for this thing!

Verdugo

Published: 2016, MSCG - OOP

I was lucky to be able to collaborate with talented Memphis based artist Weston Notestein to create a bit of a backstory and some context for his character Verdugo.

The story centers on a dead satanic biker, set loose from his tomb.

At over 40 pages I was stunned by how quickly Weston got the art done (he even recorded a soundtrack) and it remains a comic that I am quite proud of.

Sleight

Published: 2018, MSCG - OOP

Sleight was written right after Frown was finished and happens in the same universe. The story centers on a stage magician who seems to have stumbled across true arcane talents.

I was lucky enough to have artist Chris Balcom reach out to me to see if I had something for him. This was Chris’s sequential debut, and to be able to masterfully draw up 40 hard pages was a real credit to his abilities.

Sleight was also my first effort at lettering. I have since learned a lot, but you know what? I think I did a fine job!

Be Flat Broke aka Panopticon

Published: 2016, MSCG - OOP

Here it is the third of the series, and at the time our biggest collection.

This was our first full color anthology, and by this time we were down to 4 key players, so to be able to produce such a hefty volume it was pretty remarkable.

As usual we each wrote and drew a bunch, finally knowing what our strengths and weaknesses were we leaned into what we did best.

This volume collects some of our favorite work from the previous volumes as well.

SeeSharpKnivesCover.jpg

See Sharp Knives

Published: 2015, MSCG - OOP

For our second anthology roughly the same team of creators came together once again, this time armed with greater knowledge. See Sharp Knives is still very rough, but it is leaps ahead of A Minor Spell in terms of the work it holds. We were really happy to have enough pages to require perfect binding… a real flying leap for us at the time.

A Minor Spell

Published: 2014, MSCG - OOP

This was our first anthology and we had very little idea what we were doing. We simply knew we loved comics, particularly the EC comics that gave us such joy growing up. What resulted was a mixed bag of raunchy, gross, and often times hilarious attempts at our own anthology. I wrote several shorts, and drew a bit… there are some real gems in here.

Draw Skulls

Published: 2017, Rogue Print Co

Ok this doesn’t highlight my work as a writer, but I had to include this.

When Matt from Rogue asked me to contribute a drawing of a skull to his zine I had no idea that my work would appear beside the likes of Shaky Kane, Jeffrey Alan Love, Godsteeth, etc…

So I drew the best skull I could at the time and damn it… I think it came out pretty sweet!

DimThroatCover.jpg

Dimthroat Presents #2

Published: November 2015, Dimthroat Comics

When I was asked if I would like to contribute to this anthology I was very excited. I wrote 3, 4 page stories, each illustrated by friends from the early MSCG books I was doing at the time- Justin McElroy, Jef Overn, and my brother and Frown collaborator Winston Conrad.

At the time we had only done black and white art, so this full color publication allowed us to try our hands at something new.

The stories I wrote are all Sci-Fi wierdo shorts, of course informed by my love for the Twilight Zone. This remains available on ComiXology and perhaps through mailorder.

Available now on comiXology!
